City commences with the dualling of Bottelary Road

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be commencing with the dualling of Bottelary Road, between Amandel Road and Saxdowns Road/Brackenfell Boulevard this week. The upgrade of Bottelary Road forms part of the City's Congestion Management Strategy aimed at assisting with improved traffic flow towards the R300. The anticipated completion date for this project is the end of November 2024, if all goes according to plan. 

The project's objective is to upgrade Bottelary Road between Amandel Road and Saxdowns Road to a full dual carriageway, including the dualling of the Brackenfell Boulevard and Saxdowns Road legs leading up to the intersection.

'Congestion relief is critical in this district as Kuils River and surrounding areas are growing neighbourhoods. Major upgrade projects such as the dualling of Bottelary Road will therefore be vital in managing the additional traffic through the area. We ask that residents remain patient while the work is under way. We thank you for your ongoing support while we are implementing projects that will assist in improving the traffic flow through this area,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Work is planned for weekdays between 07:30 and 17:00, and Saturdays as deemed necessary.

The project will include the following elements:

• Construction of the new southern carriageway of Bottelary Road from the Amandel Road intersection towards the Brackenfell Boulevard/Saxdowns Road intersection, connecting with the existing road network
• For both Brackenfell Boulevard and Saxdowns Road, the northbound carriageways are being constructed to complete a dual carriageway intersection
• The provision of sidewalks along both sides of the dual carriageway on Bottelary Road
• Along the entire length of the road, stormwater pipes will be installed to connect with the existing stormwater system
• New streetlighting along the entire section between Amandel Road and Saxdowns Road/Brackenfell Boulevard

'We will not see an immediate impact on traffic flow as the new carriageway will be constructed first. However, I want to advise residents in advance that there will be some delays once the team starts on the section of the project that connects with the existing roads,' said Councillor Quintas.
